Corrections and Clarifications

In "Peace and the burning train" (Editorial, February 20, 2007), it was stated that the Samjhauta (meaning Understanding) Express was started in 1976 following the Shimla accord. In the same edition, a report "Evoking horrors of Partition — and hopes of a peaceful future" said the train ran uninterrupted from September 22, 1975 to 1984. Praveen Swami clarifies that the Samjhauta Express commenced service on July 22, 1976.

The answers to the clues 25 Across "Head, soft, to draw back ... (7)" and 18 Down "Malady of Nelli wandering on board (7)" (The Hindu Crosswords 8840/8841, February 19/20 2007) should have been "Precede" and "Illness" respectively, and not "Ptrcede" and "Illnrss" as was published.
