Letters to the Editor
The impunity with which the LTTE has used the Tamil Nadu soil for carrying out its nefarious activities in the past is well known. But it is disturbing to note that it continues to do so even after being banned in India (editorial "Tamil Nadu and LTTE menace," Feb. 22). The "worrying mix of political collusion, official complacency, mercenary considerations and corruption" which has enabled it to exploit Tamil Nadu is indeed a matter of serious concern. In view of the bitter lessons of the past, one hopes necessary action will be taken by the Centre and the State Government to neutralise the menace.
G. Thirumalai,
One can draw a parallel between the terrorists operating in Kashmir with support from across the border and the LTTE cadres operating in Sri Lanka with support from the Indian soil. While India is most vocal in demanding that Pakistan stop supporting terrorist activities, it seems to lack the same commitment when it comes to eliminating LTTE activities from its own soil. It is a shame that there exist groups and even political parties in Tamil Nadu whose single-point agenda is to provide support to the LTTE, the outfit that was responsible for Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. We need to take the Tigers seriously before they decide to take us on.
