Lofty claims

The twin blasts in the Samjhauta Express that claimed 68 lives are highly condemnable. They expose the Government's lofty security claims. The need of the hour is to tighten security and launch a massive combing operation to not only trace the terrorists but to send a strong message to all terrorist groups that such dastardly acts will be dealt with mercilessly. It is time India and Pakistan became serious about the joint anti-terror mechanism.

Krittika Bhatt,
Lucknow

After every terrorist strike, the government of the day promises better security measures. Had the claims been implemented even in a small measure, the security would have been enough and more to frustrate the terrorists. Nothing is said about action taken on the so-called agencies responsible for the security lapse even though accountability is fixed. There seems to be no wrongdoing whatsoever in the Ministries/departments concerned — from the Minister to the last man — when the system fails.

M.S. Venkataraman,
Granite Bay, California
