Governor's message came too late: Thippanna

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Acting Chairman of the Legislative Council N. Thippanna has said that he had not ignored or overlooked the Governor T.N. Chaturvedi's direction that a communication sent by the latter should be announced in the House.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil has been quoted in the media as having said Mr. Thippanna had "defied" the Governor in not complying with his direction.

In a letter to Mr. Patil on Friday, Mr. Thippanna said he received the Governor's communication sometime after the House had been adjourned to meet again on March 16 when the Budget session begins. The Housed adjourned at 6.48 p.m., and since there was no session on the following day, he had not been in a position to read the Governor's message.

But without being aware of the facts, Mr. Patil had been hasty in going to the media about the issue, Mr. Thippanna said.
