BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is expected to call on Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to clear doubts, if any, over the leak of the Governor's message sent across to Members of the Legislative Council relating to the election of the council chairman. Mr. Chaturvedi on Thursday took exception to the leak of his message sent to the MLCs. In his message on Tuesday, the Governor called upon the MLCs to choose a chairman at the earliest so as to fulfil the mandatory constitutional provisions. The Governor took exception for keeping him in the dark over the abrupt adjournment of the council to March 16 by panel chairman N. Thippanna. The Governor had expressed dissatisfaction over Mr. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa not informing him about the proposed adjournment of the House when they called on him a day prior to him (Governor) sending the message to the Legislative Council. Mr. Kumaraswamy said there was no question of keeping anyone in the dark. He sought to down play the issue and termed it as a "communication gap." On the Government's failure to communicate the message to MLCs, he said the Cabinet was holding a meeting at that time. The Chief Minister said the message given by the Governor was not for the Government but for the MLCs. He blamed the Congress for the leak by asking "how did the principal Opposition get the letter?" Asked whether the Government would order a probe into the leak of the message, Mr. Kumaraswamy said he would discuss the issue with the Legislature Secretary.
Cauvery
Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Government convened an all-party meeting on Saturday to decide the future course of action on the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's award. Irrigation experts, senior politicians and leaders of political parties had been invited to the meeting. He said the Government would hold a meeting with writers and representatives of NGOs and discuss the tribunal's award. The Government's stance on the award would be made known to the public after a few days, he said. The Chief Minister held a meeting with MPs from the State in New Delhi on Thursday.
