Godavarthi Sri Lakshmi

GUNTUR: Penning `Rama koti' in the form of a painting, a housewife from Ponnur, Godavarthi Sri Lakshmi, found a place in Limca Book of Records for the second consecutive year in 2007.

An ardent devotee of Lord Rama, the 52-year-old woman got recognition in the `Painting' category for writing the key words `Sri Rama' four lakh times in compiling the `Venkesteswara Suprabhatam' and `Vigneswara Ashtottaram'. She is now busy compiling the final chapters of the epic, Ramayana.

Impressive collection

She has completed 10 lakh words of Sri Rama and hopes to complete the work by the end of the month. She began writing Ramayana on February 1, 2006. Her endeavour has so far taken 385 days with work spread over 1,240 pages.

In 2006 Ms. Lakshmi entered the Limca Book of Records for penning the biggest `Rama koti' a record 14.75 lakh times, while embellishing the script with drawings of Lord Rama, consort Sita and other mythological characters. Her other impressive collection include, 370 ballpoint pens of different colours, which she had used while writing `Rama koti' in the standard notebooks.

"I had an urge to write Rama Koti ever since I visited the `Rama koti' festival at Rama Naama kshetram in Guntur. When I began writing, it struck me that I could embellish the `Rama koti' with pencil drawings,'' she told The Hindu on Friday.

It was the active support of her husband Godavarthy Bapaiah Gupta, a retired lecturer of PBN College, Nidubrolu, which enabled her to achieve the distinction, she said.
