Taking centre stage

A.V. Abhishek

He got the shock of his life when he learnt that has won the `Kalaprathibha' title at the Calicut University inter-zone arts festival.

A.V. Abhishek was on his way home to Thrissur when he was asked to return to Kozhikode to collect the coveted individual title. "I had never ever imagined that I would become a Kalaprathibha," said the Civil Engineering (first semester) student of IES Engineering College, Chittilappally, who won the first prize in Jazz and Triple Drum.

"I thought it was dancers who would win Kalaprathibha titles," he said.

This has turned out to be a dream debut for Abhishek at the University festival. "I have no experience in State Schools festivals as I did my schooling in a school following CBSE syllabus," he said.

For Abhishek, who performs in a Thrissur-based rock band called `Invaders,' music is not the only passion.
