RJD members attempt to stall Governor Gavai's address

K. Balchand

PATNA: Bihar Governor R.S. Gavai on Friday asked the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) members to abide by parliamentary procedures even as they sought to stall his address to the joint session of the Legislature.

He asked them to maintain peace in the House.

"I've heard you, you hear me," he told the unrelenting RJD benches who kept pleading with him not to read the "concocted" speech drafted by the Nitish Kumar Government.

"It is a bundle of lies and full of hollow and unfulfilled promises," the RJD leaders charged.

Mr. Gavai said they were free to oppose his speech but through the parliamentary process. "You can give notice and participate in the discussion. But you can do that only after my speech."

When the RJD leaders persisted with their accusation that he was reading out incorrect facts, the Governor said: "You can say that but you cannot stop me from addressing the joint session of the two Houses."
