KOLKATA:
The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the State Government to file an affidavit within four weeks, furnishing details relating to the land acquisition process for the car manufacturing project by the Tata Motors to come up at Singur in Hooghly district.
On hearing a public interest litigation petition, challenging the acquisition of land at Singur for the project, a Division Bench of the High Court comprising acting Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharjee and Justice K.K. Prasad questioned whether land could be acquired at a site simultaneously under two different sections of the Land Acquisition Act 1894.
It asked the State Government to state the total number of persons who had been awarded compensation for land given for the project under both the sections, clarify when the award of compensation had been given to those landowners, who had consented for the acquisition, whether the money payable had been received and details of the mode of payment.
