VILLUPURAM: Tamil Nadu president of the Bharatiya Janata Party L. Ganesan has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to stay vigilant against infiltration of extremists from across the State border. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Ganesan said the recent seizure of improvised explosive devices, destruction of an explosive-laden boat, aluminium ingots, rocket launchers and so on indicated that Tamil Nadu had become a strategic point for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu to launch their clandestine operations. Referring to the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, Mr. Ganesan said it did not take into account the expansion of ayacut areas during the period between 1924 and 2007 to the extent of 900 per cent in Karnataka as against only 100 per cent increase in Tamil Nadu. Hence, the BJP had taken the stand that the Tamil Nadu Government should approach the tribunal for certain modifications. In this context, he reiterated the need for linking the southern rivers. However, the Centre had put it in cold storage. Mr. Ganesan, however, said that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had taken a mature stand on the award.
