Plan to increase funds for development

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Law Minister and member of parliamentary committee for sports, K. Venkatapathy, said that the Central Government was considering an increase in allocation of funds for sports development in Kerala.

He was speaking after receiving a memorandum submitted by Universal Citizen, an organisation formed by former sportspersons and coaches for the development of sports, education and culture in the State, at the Government Guest House here on Friday.

The minister said he would hold discussions with Union Sports Minister Mani Shankar Iyer and take steps to allot more funds to Kerala in the current budget.

The minister opined that cycling should be promoted in schools, and Universal Citizen should try to make the sports popular among school children.
