Police interrogating youth The accused person was arrested three years ago on charge of cheating

CUTTACK: The accused youth in Thursday's hotel murder case in Bhubaneswar, whom the police have detained for interrogation, was arrested by the Cuttack police three years ago on the charge of cheating others posing himself as a journalist of a national English daily.

Sharing the same name with that of a city-based journalist, the youth from Nayagarh district was reportedly involved in several cheating and forgery activities.

Earlier case

The city police on Friday said here that the Cantonment police arrested Pradeep Dash, son of Jagabandhu Dash of Godipada in Nayagarh district in September 2003, on charges of cheating a national highway executive engineer.

Booked Under Section 419(cheating by impersonating), 420 (dishonesty in inducing forgery for the purpose of cheating), 468 (preparing fake documents) and 471 (using forged documents as genuine) of IPC, the youth, a grandson of a freedom fighter was forwarded to court and later remanded in jail custody while he was trying to blackmail and collect illegal gratification from the engineer.

"We have informed about the antecedents of the youth to the capital police who are investigating into the Thursday's murder case in which a 23-year-old youth was brutally murdered in a hotel," said the Cantonment police official.
