CPI (M) criticises A.P. anti-media order

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday criticised the Andhra Pradesh Government for issuing the anti-media order, which has since been withdrawn.

Sitaram Yechury, Polit Bureau member, said the CPI (M) stood for the freedom of press and would not remain silent whenever there was any kind of attack.

However, Mr. Yechury said there was nothing wrong for the State Government to take steps to protect the interest of depositors of Margadarsi Financiers, but the action should not be vindictive.

The State Government would do well if it also took steps to compensate those depositors who suffered on account of the collapse of some banks earlier.
