Residents urged to select their candidates for Municipal Corporation elections

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Jan Pratinidhi Manch has urged the Capital's residents to select their own representative for the forthcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections so that the concerns of Delhiites are brought to centre-stage. In a statement, JPM Coordinating Secretariat secretary Sucharita said: "We consider this as an important step in challenging the domination of narrow partisan interests of the established political parties. All JPM candidates will have to take an oath that if they get elected they would resign if the residents find their work unsatisfactory."

The newly formed Manch, a common platform of several political and social organisations, is chalking out a plan to bring about people's intervention in the MCD elections. The Manch will field candidates selected by the residents of each ward from among themselves, through their area committees, as opposed to candidates selected by the established political parties.
