JAIPUR: Dr. Qudsia Tahseen, Reader in Zoology at Aligarh Muslim University, has been elected a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. She is the third AMU scientist to receive this honour in the 72-year history of the Academy. The honour came in recognition to her contributions and excellence in the field of science. Dr. Tahseen has also received a number of national and international awards for excellence in research including INSA (Indian National Science Academy), ISCA (Indian Science Congress Association) and ISDB (Indian Society of Developmental Biologists) Young Scientist Awards and Special Award for sustained excellence in Nematology from ONTA, America.Dr. Tahseen has availed of several post-doctoral fellowships and visited and collaborated with reputed labs of Europe and America. Dr. Tahseen has just returned from a Government of India-sponsored scientific visit to the University of California, Riverside. The taxonomy and biology of free-living soil and aquatic nematodes form the focal theme of her research. She also holds the distinction of performing pioneering studies on the nematode fauna of the famous Keoladeo Ghana National Park near Bharatpur in Rajasthan.
