New Delhi:
The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday said the detention of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, wanted in the Bofors case, in Argentina ``has exposed'' the UPA government.
``His detention has exposed the UPA government which sided with him and tried to protect him. Now, a government is required to tell the nation why it allowed defreezing of Mr. Quattrocchi's accounts abroad,'' BJP chief Rajnath Singh told PTI.
He said the BJP would seek an explanation in Parliament why defreezing of Mr. Quattrochi's London bank accounts was allowed.
``The government is also answerable to the nation as to where the money went from his accounts after they were defrozen. An investigation has to be launched to trace it,'' Mr. Singh said.
The Congress said the legal process must be allowed to work itself out. ``Whatever the prosecuting agency, whatever is the extraditing agency,...the legal process must be allowed to work itself out,'' Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said here. PTI
