Cricket buff sets self on fire

Staff Reporter

Failure to buy television drives him to extreme step

HYDERABAD: A cricket lover committed suicide by setting himself on fire near a chemical factory at his house in Mallapur on Thursday.

E. Uday Kiran (28) was an avid lover of cricket since childhood. Because of his interest, he never used to concentrate on studies. As a result, he discontinued his studies after he failed in the seventh class examination thrice, the Nacharam police, quoting Kiran's father Achyutharamaiah, said.

Kiran later got a job as a security guard in a private factory at Mallapur. With the World Cup cricket matches set to begin next month, Kiran was planning to purchase a colour television to watch matches.

But he could not arrange the money. Upset over this, Kiran doused himself with kerosene and set himself afire.

His neighbours rushed him to Gandhi Hospital where he later succumbed to injuries.
