CBI probe into S-I case sought

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Several social, human rights and non-government organisations demonstrated at Jantar Mantar here on Friday seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into alleged sexual exploitation and murder of Bhind Sub-Inspector Chetna Sharma last year.

The demonstrators also sought immediate suspension of the Superintendent of Police (Bhind) as the victim's family suspects his involvement in the case. They also demanded a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs for the family.

Manushi founder president Madhu Kishwar said the incident proved that women police officers were not safe even in the police lines and there was an urgent need to make the work place safer for women. "It is unfortunate that the suspect is roaming free and a murder case has not been registered against the cop. A case of murder should be registered against him based on the victim's letter to the National Commission for Women," she said.
