Anita Nair's book launched

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: With "Living Next Door to Alise," Anita Nair had her third brush with children's writing. For her, the book was almost a private work, specifically addressed to a six-year-old boy called Siddharth, an attempt to wipe away his tears collected from days of bullying back in school.

For the uninitiated, Alise was Nair's creation, a baby elephant to be precise. Siddharth had been unhappy with school, giving up his breakfast every morning to avoid that daily trip. Alise saved Siddharth from starving himself, as Nair unleashed her repertoire of stories to bribe him, amuse him, take him to a wonderland that he loved to run to. Narrating a chapter a day, Nair completed the story in 10 days flat. Back in Bangalore, it was time for her to pen down the story. "I had written the story in my head. For me, it was almost instant research, instant response. I thought it would amuse children," she recalled to a group of children and adults.
