BANGALORE: The Inter-University Board (IUB) on Friday approved a Common Entrance Test for admission to 11 postgraduate general degree courses offered by different universities in the State. The courses were chosen based on their popularity and demand. The board, which met here under Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy, decided to have a common test for biotechnology, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, microbiology, economics, commerce, M.Ed., political science, MSW and history. Ninety per cent of the seats will be reserved for Karnataka students and 10 per cent for students from other States. The IUB also decided to introduce yoga and meditation courses in all universities. However, the two subjects will not be part of the syllabus. Another key decision was to do away with the headgear for the annual convocation and instead sport the Mysore Peta for all candidates. All the universities will have a common academic calendar from this year. Another important decision of the IUB was to make 75 per cent attendance mandatory for all university students.
