CPI (M) to picket Government offices on Monday

Special Correspondent

It will focus on inflation causing hardships to poor

Puducherry: Volunteers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) here will stage picketing in front of Government departments in Puducherry and Karaikal on Monday.

The party's secretary here V. Perumal said on Friday that the agitation would focus the failure of the Centre to take firm measures to control increase in prices of essential commodities. Prices of vegetables, groceries and other commodities had been skyrocketing.

The party would seek steps to prevent middlemen from holding the common man to ransom. The Centre should come out with an action plan to rationalise the taxation structure covering diesel and petrol.

Farmers should be assured of reasonable prices for their produce and farm inputs should be available through Government agencies. All essential commodities should be made available through public distribution system, and prices of essential and life-saving drugs should be kept under check.

The picketing would take place at Nehru Sreet, Lawspet, Tiruvandarkoil, Bahoor and areas on the outskirts of Puducherry and in Karaikal.
