BHUBANESWAR: With the elegant 11th century Rajarani temple serving as the backdrop, the 5th annual national Rajarani music festival will get under way on the sprawling green lawns of the temple premises here commencing Monday. The Bhubaneswar Music Circle (BMC), in association with the Department of Tourism, is hosting the three-day event.
Classical styles
The festival would showcase all the three Indian classical music styles - Hindustani, Carnatic and Odissi - informed BMC secretary Khirod Pattnaik. Artistes of national repute, both vocal and instrumental, were being invited to perform, he said, and added that there would not be an entry fee this year. The festival would commence with Odissi vocal by renowned music composer and Odissi Research Centre chief Ramahari Das. Young and talented flutist Jawahar Mishra of Bhubaneswar would be the next performer while the evening would end with Hindustani vocal recital by Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar from Kolkata, Mr. Pattnaik said. Tuesday's programme would feature Hindustani vocalist Harihar Ratha of Puri followed by Shashwati Mandal Paul. Renowned Rudra Veena exponent Ustad Bahaud'din Dagar from Mumbai would be the last performer of the evening, he said. The concluding evening on Wednesday would showcase Odissi singer Minati Bhanja who would be followed by Hindustani vocalist Hema Upasani from Mumbai.
