TIRUCHI: Seven of the 12 marine police stations the Centre has sanctioned to Tamil Nadu will come up in the central zone, M.S. Jaffar Sait, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, said on Saturday. The police have identified the sites for the stations that will come up at Nagapattinam, Keelaiyur and Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district, Adhiramapattinam and Sethubavachathiram in Thanjavur district and Manamelkudi and Tirupunavasal in Pudukottai district. Each station will be provided with two boats, he told journalists here. After the seizure of IED components off Rameswaram, special teams had been formed in the coastal areas to check smuggling. A total number of 1,972 Sri Lankan Tamil families, comprising 6,207 members, were settled in refugee camps and elsewhere in the district. They were accommodated at Kottapattu in the city and at Vazhavandankottai on the outskirts. In neighbouring Pudukottai district, the camps were functioning at Azhiyanilai, Thekkatur and Thoppukollai, where 3,000 refugees had been accommodated, police sources said.
