CHENNAI: A truck crashed through a compound wall and rammed the railway track at West Mambalam disrupting suburban train movement for over two hours on Saturday. The incident that occurred aroud 9.45 a.m., left hundreds of commuters using the Tambaram-Beach line stranded. Railway officials could restore the main line service within half an hour of the incident. But along the track, many EMU services had to be suspended at stations in the southern suburbs. Despite being a Saturday, the crowds swelled at all the stations. In the initial half hour, the stranded passengers did not know the reason for the disruption even as they watched a group of trains halted on the same track. The services ran jam packed for the next few hours. A railway official said if a turn-back facility had been provided at the St. Thomas Mount station, the disruption could have been minimised.
