Special Correspondent
Puducherry: Convener of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) here N.G. Panneerselvam has been named as the party's nominee for the post of nominated legislator of the Puducherry Assembly. (The Assembly can have three nominated legislators. The Communist Party of India had already named the secretary of its State committee N. Kalainathan as its nominee and the Congress yet to take a decision). PMK Parliamentary Party leader M. Ramadoss, accompanied by legislators R.K.R. Anantharaman (Ariyankuppam) and P. Arulmurugan (Mannadipet) handed over the letter to Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Saturday. There was an assurance by the Congress here that its two allies the CPI and the PMK would be earmarked one post of nominated legislator each. Mr. Panneerselvam is the son of former CPI legislator of Puducherry N. Gurusamy. Mr. Kalainathan (CPI) was a nominated legislator in the preceding Assembly. And the Congress has now been forced to finalise its candidate early.
Procedure
The procedure is that the Chief Minster should submit the list of names of the three incumbents to Lt. Governor, who would forward it to the Union Home Ministry.
