FUN TIME: Russell Peters
NEW DELHI: As one comedian famously put it, comedy is serious business. Slapstick humour may still rule Bollywood movies, but here is something for those who like humour that is a little subtle. While stand-up comedy has finally found a stage with the Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Delhiites now have the chance of watching the real thing. Bringing to stage Russell Peters for the first time in India, United Spirits is all set to tickle the Capital's funny bone. Not new to show business, Peters has hosted a chat show on BBC, "Network East Late'', which became popular. He has hosted the likes of Gurinder Chadha and Ismail Merchant on the show. But his comic timing apart, Peter's acts are based on the immigrant communities. From Filipinos, Koreans and East Asians, he has managed to make the "right'' observations. Using his own experience, Peter's brand of humour is based on his growing up years in Toronto.
Cross over
And as one of the few "desi'' comedians to cross over, Peter's show promises to be interesting for more than just his jokes. "All my mother's family, going back to my great grandmother, was born in Calcutta. Even my brother, who's also my manager, was born in Calcutta. I have uncles, aunts and several cousins who still live in Calcutta,'' he claims. For those who want to watch the show, Peter will be performing at Sri Sathya Sai International Centre on Lodhi Road on March 7. Tickets for the show are available online at www.dnanetworks.com.
