NEW DELHI: Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on Saturday mourned the death of veteran journalist Sham Lal. In a condolence message, Mr. Shekhawat said Sham Lal was a ``journalist par excellence who was committed to objectivity, independence and high moral values in journalism.'' ``In a long career in journalism, he worked with uncommon zeal and steadfast commitment to shape the thinking of generations of readers through his deep insight, powerful reflections, secular outlook and tireless strivings for professional ethics and probity. An amiable personality, Mr. Lal endeared himself to one and all through his innate simplicity and sensitivity. In his death, the country has lost a distinguished journalist and a fine human being, and the journalists have lost a father figure,'' Mr. Shekhawat wrote in his message to the bereaved family.
