NEW DELHI: A Jain tirthankar idol said to be 900 years old and valued at several crores in the international market has been seized by the Delhi police near the Maharana Pratap Inter-State Bus Terminus here. Two daily-wagers from U.P. have been arrested. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) Devesh Chandra Srivastva, a tip-off was received that some persons would come to the ISBT with an antique idol. A trap was laid and Pappu Yadav (34) and Banu (28) were arrested. During interrogation, the accused purportedly told the police that the idol belonged to one Ram Babu who had offered them a share in the deal if they found a buyer. Lured by the prospect of making some quick money, they agreed. They alleged that Ram Babu also accompanied them, but got off when the bus entered the Capital. He asked them to meet him at ISBT. Before coming to the Capital, the accused had gone to Sangrur in Punjab to a sculptor Shiv Pal looking for a prospective buyer.
