CHENNAI: Students should have a clear understanding of subject fundamentals being taught in the four-year B.E. programme, utilise facilities available at the institution and strive to achieve excellence in at least in one field of engineering, C.R. Muthukrishnan, Consultant, Tata Consultancy Services, has said. Inaugurating a national students' technical symposi um - TechnoThunder-2007 recently at Raja Rajeswari Engineering College, Adayalampattu, he said a high score was essential to enter today's competitive job market. At the same time, the ultimate aim of acquiring technical expertise in the chosen discipline was equally important. Starting with papers on Civil Engineering on the first day, the event saw students of ECE, Bio Medical Engineering, computer science and engineering, I.T., MCA, Electrical and Electronics and Instrumentation and Mechanical engineering branches present and discuss papers on topics of current interest. These included quake resistant construction, low-cost desalination using solar energy, digital image processing, nanotechnology, blood stream analysis, renewable energy systems, special machines, alternative fuels for IC Engine and Micro machining. In the valedictory address, V. Natarajan, Principal, Saveetha Engineering College, Thandalam, said tremendous opportunities were available for students in every branch of Engineering. He urged the students to develop communication skills, which, he said, were much needed for a successful career. K.P. Ramakrishnan, Principal, Raja Rajeswari Engineering College, presided over each session.
