Convicts' kin get aid

TIRUCHI: Welfare assistance was given to family members of life convicts lodged in Tiruchi Central Prison on Saturday.

At the function, organised jointly by the Salem Bethel World Vision, Tiruchi Regional Probation Office and the Department Prisons, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Central Prison, Tiruchi, C. Kannan, distributed bicycles to five students and Rs. 10,000 to another person for gunny bag selling business.

`Internet mela'

The State Bank of India's National Institute of Technology branch conduced an `Internet mela' at the branch premises near here recently. As many as 442 customers visited the branch and availed free Internet connections on the occasion. A press release from the bank said the facility was offered to the bank's savings bank account holders and current account holders free of cost.

Mettur level

TIRUCHI: The level in the Mettur dam stood at 81.77 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Saturday. The inflow was 231 cusecs and the discharge from the dam was 1,500 cusecs.
