NEW DELHI: Teachers and students of Delhi University's Miranda House have formed a consumer club called "Tula". "Tula" was formally inaugurated at a function over the weekend by Alka Sirohi, Additional Secretary in the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs. In her inaugural speech, Ms. Sirohi drew attention to various aspects of the consumer movement and highlighted the role of consumer courts, quality standardisation, weight and measures. While appreciating the new initiative, she appealed to the members to be the "eyes and ears" of the Government in safeguarding consumer rights. Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants, Miranda House Principal Pratibha Jolly said awareness of consumer rights leads to student empowerment and would make a difference in the time to come. Dr. Jolly also announced introduction of Consumer Affairs as an application course for B. A. (Pass) students. "Tula" convenor Dr. Jayashree Pillai said the club came into existence as a result of the successful consumer awareness workshop held in the college earlier.
