ANU ties up with entrepreneurs

Acharya Nagarjuna University is contemplating a tie-up with the State Women Industrialists' Association for providing training and creating awareness among prospective women entrepreneurs on the campus.

Association president K. Rama Devi, secretary Jyothi and Rajeshwari Paper Productions Managing Partner Kanakadurga met Vice Chancellor V. Balamohandas and other officials will arrive at a draft for memorandum of understanding soon. They invited a delegation from the ANU to visit their office in Hyderabad on March 23 to further discuss the issue.

They also promised to provide financial assistance to the promising students desiring to stand on their feet by taking a plunge into entrepreneurship. The Vice Chancellor said that he would discuss the issue with Executive Committee members of the university and tour all the facilities of the association before the ANU makes an offer for MoU.

SVU gets grant

UGC has sanctioned a one-time grant of Rs.68.24 lakhs to Sri Venkateswara University towards renovation of old buildings, modernisation and computerisation of administrative offices and purchase of furniture and teaching aids.

SPMVV

Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam's (SPMVV) Centre for Women's Studies conducted a meet on 'Women's rights as human rights' last Thursday that highlighted the need to eliminate discrimination in the name of gender to pave the way for women's empowerment.

Debora Hedlund, a judge in USA appreciated the provisions in the Indian constitution that facilitated preference to women and children, while Sandre Gliberg, a lawyer in USA spoke on the importance of support and respect from the spouse for a woman to climb up the career ladder. Dr.Yesupadam Bandela, a pastor, Woody Dalhburg, a media expert, George Kenworthy, a family counselling expert and Frederick K.Martin, an asset management specialist spoke on women-specific issues in their respective areas of operation. V-C Veena Noble Dass presided.
