HYDERABAD: The Motion Pictures Association (MPA) in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Film Producers' Chambers, in a bid to curb video piracy in the State, has asked the Government to set up a special designated court to deal with piracy-related cases besides introduction of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as a mandatory subject in the high school curriculum. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, head of operations of MPA (India) Anil Nayer said lack of coordination between Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu was resulting in spread of piracy on a large scale. He reminded that a strategy with focus on enforcement, awareness and use of advanced technology was prepared to fight against piracy. Regular meetings were being conducted with exhibitors and theatre managements to fight piracy, said Vijayander Reddy, president, Hyderabad Film Chamber of Commerce. Earlier in the day, the MPA in alliance with the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy conducted a seminar on `Video piracy' for Assistant Public Prosecutors and police officers on the academy premises here. Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister K. Jana Reddy said the Government was committed to curbing piracy in the State and special training programmes would be conducted for the personnel involved in taking action against the spread of piracy.
