NEW DELHI:
Press Registrar of India Amitabha Chakrabarti (59) died on Saturday following a heart attack in Varanasi.
He was an Indian Information Service officer of the 1971 batch. Mr. Chakrabarti was widely respected in the media fraternity for his upright approach in handling affairs.
During his 35-year-long career, he held several important assignments in various media units. He served as Prasar Bharati Correspondent in Washington and was later the Additional Director-General (News) in Doordarshan. He was a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, besides holding the post of Director, Research, Reference and Training Division.
He assumed the office of Press Registrar a few months ago following his elevation as Additional Secretary.
