Two killed in road accident

NALGONDA: In a hit and run case, two cousins - V. Saidulu (24) and Ravi (20) - were killed on the National Highway No. 9 at Ayitipamula of Kattamgur mandal on Sunday. According to the police sources, an unidentified vehicle knocked down the two-wheeler on which they were going to Choutuppal from Inupamula of Kethepally mandal. The duo, workers in a private factory, had gone to Inupamula to see the 10-day-old baby of Saidulu. — Staff Reporter

Yoga training camp

KADAPA: Sri Bikshamaiah of Dhyana Mandali, Vijayawada, will conduct meditation, medication and yoga training camps on Zion College of Physical Education premises and Sri Ayyappa Swamy temple near municipal grounds from February 26 to March 6. He will also give a lecture on meditation, medication and yoga training at the collegeon February 25 . The classes are open to persons over 16 years of age. -Staff Reporter

Lok Satta survey

KURNOOL: Lok Satta volunteers conducted a survey in Government offices in the city over compliance of the provisions of Information Act. Regional Coordinator C. Yellaiah said out of 45 officials, only 13 departments displayed partial information while the rest did not. Mr. Yellaiah asked the Government to look into the matter and rectify the lapse. -Special Correspondent

New RTC bus

Madanapalle: A new RTC bus service from Madanapalle I depot to Bangalore was inaugurated on Saturday at Madanapalle. The bus would start everyday at 5 a.m. Managers of Depots I and II and others were present on the occasion. - Correspondent

Farmer ends life

ANANTAPUR: A farmer, Nagi Reddy, 48, committed suicide here unable to cope with alleged harassment of money-lenders, from whom he had taken loans.

Reddy, of Gopepalli village of Nallamada mandal, had 20 acres of land. Successive failure of crops had resulted in his debts mounting to Rs. 4 lakhs. He allegedly consumed pesticide in his fields and was rushed to a hospital. He died under treatment. The farmer is survived by wife and two children. — Staff Reporter

MPTCs kidnapped?

KHAMMAM: Two MPTCs of the Telugu Desam-CPI(M) combine were reportedly kidnapped in the district on Sunday. According to a complaint received by the Aswaraopet police, Darapu Tarallamma, MPTC of Achyutapuram and a TDP activist was missing from Saturday night. She was reportedly kidnapped by the rival party. Dharavath Nagamma, MPTC of Ballepalli and a CPI(M) worker too was allegedly kidnapped. — Staff Reporter

EAMCET centres

Srikakulam: There will be three more EAMCET centers -- Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Adilabad -- this year. According to Saibaba Reddy, Convener, EAMCET, except in Medak, arrangements have been completed for the exam in all district headquarters. — Special Correspondent

Search on at Margadarsi

HYDERABAD: On court order, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of police resumed the search at the head office of Margadarsi Financiers here on Sunday.

Personnel of CID drove into the premises near Fatehmaidan at 10 a.m. as ordered by the court. The search was continuing even at 8.30 p.m. The gates of the building were closed for outsiders. — Special Correspondent

. `Chalo Assembly'

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers' Association will take out a `Chalo Assembly' rally on February 28 demanding pay raise for members and recognition as Government employees. B.V.Vijayalakshmi, president, said in a press release that the anganwadi staff had been working for 30 years for paltry salary. — Special Correspondent

`Hike land price'

HYDERABAD: The Project Displaced Persons' Association has criticised the Government for exempting the lands being acquired for irrigation projects from the purview of GO raising the land value. HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State committee of Bank Employees' Federation of India has decided to support five candidates who are contesting the Legislative Council elections from the graduate's constituencies. B.Sudhakar, general secretary, in a press release issued here on Sunday named the candidates--K.Nageswar (Hyderabad constituency), Buggaveeti Sarala (Khammam), Vithapu Subramanyam (Chittoor), K.George Victor (West Godavari) and M.V.S.Sarma (Visakhapatnam). — Special Correspondent

TDP leader dead

ADILABAD: A former Chief Whip of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and senior leader from Adilabad , K.V. Narayan Rao died on Sunday following a heart attack at his residence at Kagaznagar town. The octogenarian is survived by wife, son and daughter. He was first elected MLA from Sirpur-Kagaznagar in 1983. When he was elected MLA for the second time he was made Chief Whip of the party. He was also a trade union leader having led the Sir Silk Mazdoor Union in the early seventies. — Special Correspondent
