Staff Reporter

Nagercoil: Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan handed over keys of permanent houses to 113 tsunami-affected fishermen at a Keezamanakudi on Sunday.

The houses were constructed by Rural Uplift Centre (RUC), a Nagercoil-based non-governmental organisation with financial support from German Doctors for Developing Countries.

The Minister appreciated the efforts taken by the RUC to ensure human rights standards while providing habitation to persons displaced by disasters.

Secretary of the German Doctors for Developing Countries, Bernhard, briefed the gathering that they provided livelihood equipment worth Rs.3 lakh each to 125 group of fishermen, financial assistance to traders, scholarships to students and constructed six fish mending sheds.
