SSC counselling As SSC exams are fast approaching, I would like to request the Education Department to organise counselling classes for students. They are very much in need for the students at this critical juncture. Counselling should be done by taking the services of voluntary organisations and other like-minded people. Rural children are not aware of the various courses and they stand to gain immensely by this measure. Many well-known schools do this. Why not the Government schools? M. Ameer Basha, Gooty Plea to shift bank Canara Bank, Guntakal, is located in a small by lane in the heart of the city near the Gandhi statue, hardly eight feet wide, with shops and residential quarters on either side, causing a lot of inconvenience to the customers. Hence, I request the authorities either to move the bank to a safer and more convenient place or declare the area as `no parking' zone. R. Dwarakanatha Rao, Guntakal Soaring prices The Central and State Governments are responsible for the galloping prices of all essential commodities. Had the Government taken proper steps to check the hoarding of essential commodities, their prices goods would not have gone up. M. Nazeeruddin, Kurnool Fluoride threat One out of the ten aged persons in Guntakal does not walk, he toddles or limps. The reason is the water people drink here contains fluoride above the permissible level. The ill effects of fluoride ingestion are manifest here. People in their forties and above complain of pain in their ankles and knees and of wilting bones. The hapless villagers tend to leave villages to evade the perils threatening to engulf them as they can hardly afford to buy packaged water. Initiatives are long overdue to launch a viable project to de-fluoridate underground water and supply it to avert a tragedy in villages. N. Sadasivan Pillai, Guntakal Restore facilities The phonogram service with 1845 and 2330033 numbers at Nellore telecom, BSNL, are not functioning for the past 2 months. The reason being given by the authorities is non-functioning of equipment at the exchange. This has been causing hardship to the public. Also, the automatic phone meter reading service, 1502, is not functional for the past 45 days at the local Sullurupet exchange. I request the authorities to restore the services at the earliest.
