Chikungunya in Ganjam district?

Health officials yet confirm presence any chikungunya cases

BERHAMPUR: Suspected chikungunya cases have been reported in the city and parts of Ganjam as well as Gajapati districts.

However, the district health officials are yet to confirm presence of any chikungunya cases in Ganjam district.

Thousands of people were allegedly affected by the disease last year in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhmal districts.

Assistant professor of medicine at the MKCG Medical College Umashankar Mishra had then got blood samples of some patients suspected to be suffering from Chikungunya last year tested at the National Institute of Virology, Pune.

And these cases were tested chikungunya positive.

Dr. Mishra said that similar cases have started arriving at MKCG Medical College Hospital and private nursing homes in the city, where patients show high fever and poly-arthritis syndromes attached to chikungunya.
