Bangalore: Two eight-year-old girls, who were reported missing from the Government Lower Primary School in Bhuvaneshwarinagar, near Kengeri, were found dead on Sunday by passers-by. The bodies were found floating in a drain, the police said. On Friday, Divya, daughter of Gurumurthy, and Soundarya, daughter of Anand, both second standard students, had excused themselves from class at around 3.30 p.m. The teachers, who were busy with the census work, did not pay much attention and allowed the children to go outside. Though the school has toilets, the school authorities keep them locked, thus forcing the children to use the fields nearby. The police said that the two girls went near the drain, which is close to the school. The police suspect that they may have slipped in and drowned. Meanwhile, the teachers asked the other students to take the satchels of the two girls to their (the girls') homes. The anxious parents of Divya and Soundarya filed a complaint with the Bidadi police after the girls did not return home. On Sunday, passers-by noticed the bodies floating in the drain near the school and informed the police. The police arrived on the spot and identified the bodies.

A man was killed on the spot in a road accident on Bangalore-Mysore Road coming under Channapatna Rural Police Station limits in the early hours of Sunday. The name of the dead was given as Murthy (28), resident of Rajagopalanagar. The accident occurred at around 2.30 a.m. when a lorry, on its way towards Bangalore, collided with the motorcycle that Murthy was riding. Raju (32) of Madanayakanahalli, who was riding pillion, was injured. The police said that he was taken to a government hospital.

A two-wheeler lifter was arrested by the Central Crime Branch Police on Friday. The police said that B.K. Shyam, a resident of Nagendra Block, was pushing a motorcycle that bore no number plate. The police detained and questioned him. Upon interrogation, he revealed that he did not own the vehicle. The police seized two two-wheelers valued at Rs. 50,000 from the accused. A case has been registered. On Saturday, the Central Crime Branch Police arrested Aslam Pasha (32), resident of Islampura, HAL Post.
