Thiruvananthapuram: The nation's leading carrier Indian has commenced online check-in facility for those proceeding from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport to destinations within the country as part of its efforts to make checking-in hassle-free. The `i-check-in' facility being offered by Indian is available 24 hours on all the days. Passengers having e-tickets have begun using the facility from Friday, a senior official of the airline told The Hindu . The `i-check-in' facility would close two hours before the scheduled departure of the flight. It will help save time for the passengers, increase productivity, avoid interface with the airline staff and help the airline offer seamless service to the passengers. Restricted to passengers holding e-tickets, dial-a ticket, net ticket, Bird and Fly tickets in the domestic sector, the holders of these tickets can select the choice of seats for flights departing either on the same day or the next day. Besides, the passenger can check-in and get the boarding card from their home or office. The passengers can log on to the web site of the airline www.indianairlines.in and get their boarding pass printed. With the printed boarding pass, the passengers can step into the domestic terminal 30 minutes before the departure of the flight for security checks and to complete other facilities. Those failing to report 30 minutes before the departure of the flight would lose the basic fare, the official said. Under the `i-check-in,' the airline official said nine passengers could check-in through a single PNR. Passengers with baggage can also opt for the scheme. But, they will have to reach the airport an hour prior to the departure of the flight to check-in their baggage. Those needing special assistance such as wheelchairs, ambulift from the airport or unaccompanied minors should report to the Duty Manager at the domestic terminal an hour before the scheduled departure of the flight. According to the airline official, the online check-in facility would be introduced on the international sector in the next phase. Once it is introduced, passengers proceeding from the capital city to Male and Sharjah in the UAE can utilise the self check-in facility. Indian will also introduce the latest Passenger Services System and 42 brand new Airbus aircraft from mid-2007.
