RGUHS officials seek stay

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Vice-Chancellor of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, and several other officials moved the Karnataka High Court on Monday seeking a stay on all further proceedings against them after the State referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a case of examination malpractice in which they were sought to be named as accused.

Vice-Chancellor P.S. Prabhakaran; Hanumanthaprasad, professor and Director of Postgraduate Studies, Nargund College of Pharmacy in Bangalore; H.L. Ravindraprasad and Prashant Gudur, Assistant Registrars of RGUHS; and B.R. Gopala Krishnappa, field supervisor, contended that the State had no jurisdiction over them, and referring a case to the CBI was ultra vires and impermissible under the law.

The petitioners said the State had erred in exercising action against them and 24 others on the report of an inquiry committee. They said the committee was set up after there were allegations of malpractice over the conduct of the postgraduate common entrance test (PGCET) examination in 2006.
