Choose books over TV, Governor tells students

TIRUVANNAMALAI : Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala has appealed to students to cultivate the habit of reading and give up the practice of watching television serials, made only with commercial interests in mind.

Participating in the silver jubilee celebrations of Sri V.D.S. Jain Higher Secondary School here on Monday, the Governor said that when parents themselves sit in front of the TV for hours together, children tend to follow suit.

Instead, students should cultivate the habit of reading good books .

Mr. Barnala handed over on behalf of the Shri Sayardevi Dhanmull Sowcar Educational and Charitable Trust a cheque for Rs. 4 lakh to the Sayardevi Dhanmull Sowcar College Book Bank to be maintained by the Foundation for Unity of Religion and Enlightened Citizenship for college students. He also released the souvenir for the silver jubilee celebrationsCollector Satyabrata Sahoo received the first copy.
