``Watch out for more from this big-hearted showman''

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's communication skills were on display both inside and outside Parliament on Monday.

While inside Lok Sabha, Mr. Prasad, while presenting the Railway budget, undeterred by the shouting opposition, laced his speech with couplets resplendent with wit.

Mr. Prasad's address was full of Urdu couplets reflecting the turnaround in Railways, his personal achievements in the present capacity and his resolve to take the organisation on the high growth path.

Opening his speech with praise of the Railways economic turnaround by its employees, Mr. Prasad said: "Navajish hai sabki, karam hai sabhi ki... Bade fakhra se ham bulandi par aaye ...Tarakki ke sare mayaron se aage ... Naye dhang laaye, nayee soch laaye" (With blessing of all, the outcome of hard work of all... We rose the top with a boundless pride ... we crossed all the benchmarks of workmanship... We ushered in new ways, a new vision). Similarly, emphasising that the Railways under him yielded a high surplus without burdening the common man, he pointed out he was man of deeds not words: "Maana ki badi-badi baaten karna hamen nahin aaya .. Magar dil par badi kaarigari se naam likhte hain" (What if I could not talk big things, but with great craftsmanship we do the filigree) Listing achievement of the railways especially in terms of fund surplus:

"Jitna ab tak dekh chuke ho, ye to bas shuruat hai .. Khel tamasha aage dekho, dariya dil saudagar ka" (What you've seen till now is just the beginning, Watch out for more from this big-hearted showman).

Even during the customary press conference, Mr. Prasad preferred to handle all the questions himself rather than falling back on the officials present indicating his command over his subject and Ministry.

Walking from one TV studio to another and taking up lively discussions through the electronic media, the Railway Minister handled all the queries with aplomb and came out with confident and satisfactory performance.
