Government's apology sought for Gujarat riots

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD : On the eve of the fifth anniversary of the post-Godhra communal riots in Gujarat, a group of voluntary organisations demanded the Narendra Modi Government to publicly apologise for what happened in 2002 and take immediate steps to rehabilitate those still living in make-shift camps.

Launching the week-long programme, "Sach ki Yadein, Yadon ka Sach," the speakers said the Gujarat Government's "false pretensions" that everything was normal and the riot-hit were "happily" resettled must be exposed.

Convenor of the Mumbai-based Citizens for Justice and Peace Teesta Setalvad said nothing was more misleading than to claim that life had returned to normality even for the riot-affected.
