BANGALORE: The English version of the former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily's Kannada novel `Tembere' was released here on Monday. The English version is titled `The Edge of the Time.' Releasing the book, noted literary critic L.S. Seshagiri Rao said the novel deserved the attention of the literary world on various counts, including form, content, narrative deftness and the quality of translation. Describing the book as revolutionary, Prof. Rao said it had ventured to explore the multiple dimensions of tradition in the face of fast changing social and economic landscape. The book attempted to capture life, its challenges and the creative energy of the downtrodden in a symbolic way, he added. Literary critic C.N. Ramachandran, who translated `Tembere' into English, narrated the challenges he faced in the course of translation. Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University Hampi B.A. Vivek Rai and Mr. Moily spoke. Chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Bangalore) N. Ramanuja welcomed the gathering. Priced at Rs. 295, the book is brought out by Rupa and Company.
