BANGALORE: All set to ride their motorcycle through rugged terrain, a group from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is on a mission to highlight socially relevant issues.

From Bangalore to the border post in Wagah, these Bangalore-based cadets will travel over 5,000 km, meeting the local populace and understanding different cultures.

G.R. Gopinath, managing director of Deccan Aviation, flagged off `Roadtrek 2007,' the 26-day motorcycle expedition, on Monday.

These cadets, students of BHS First Grade College, Jayanagar, will spread awareness about AIDS, road safety, talent outsourcing, and the importance of solar energy. The cadets will interact with the local population, including villagers, drivers and students.

The cadets are affiliated to 7 Kar BN NCC, Group B of NCC Directorate of Karnataka and Goa.

The team comprises one officer, one associate NCC officer, nine NCC cadets in the age group between 19 and 21 years and students of BHS First Grade College, two ex-NCC cadets of the college as liaison officers and three service personnel

The team will ride through 10 States, doing an average 300 km daily.

The members will pass through Davangere, Pune, Nasik, Khalghat, Bhopal, Jhalwar, Jaipur, Hissar, Ambala and Amritsar to reach the border post at Wagah, a distance of 5,084 km.

They will hold street plays, lectures, discussions and distribute leaflets as well as interact with people en route. The team will visit heritage sites, places of national importance and important institutions in their route besides Army units.

Capt. Gopinath said, "We should all dare to dream, and we should have a vision apart from dreaming."

Besides being an adventure trip, the expedition should be a learning exercise, he added.
