NIMCET applications

KARIMNAGAR: The PIME (Pioneer Institute of Management Education) has announced distribution of NIMCET-2007 application forms free cost at their institute at Padmanayaka hostels in Karimnagar town. Degree final year students with Maths as one of the subjects can collect application forms by showing their college identity card. Filled-in application forms should be posted to National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur on or before March 23D. Bhoopathi, PIME managing director, said in a press release. Staff Reporter

Literary seminar

WARANGAL: Kakatiya University Telugu department is organising a UGC-sponsored seminar `Sampradaya Kavyalu: Samalochanam' on February 27 and 28. Noted poet C. Narayan Reddy will be the chief guest at the inaugural function. There will be 12 lectures by eminent personalities in the field of Telugu literature, according to seminary director Prof. Anumandla Bhoomaiah.

Removed from president post

TIRUPATI: The State body of the Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union (PRTU) in a statement said the union cancelled for a period of 10 years primary membership of its Chittoor district union president V. Reddysekhar Reddy and also removed him from the president's post.

The action was based on the report submitted by a three-member panel, which went into the charges of alleged irregularities of Mr. Reddy. - Special Correspondent

Signature drive on Dalit issues

KADAPA: Kulavivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham launched a signature campaign in front of the Collectorate on Sunday on Dalit issues.

Uplift of downtrodden sections was vital for progress of society, Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham district president K. Lingamurthy said. Dalits should agitate for safeguarding their rights, KVPS district general secretary M. Subbanna said. - Staff Reporter

200 treated at medical camp

KADAPA: Two hundred patients were examined for orthopaedic and joint problems at a free mega medical camp at Sri Vivekananda Hospital on Bellary road, organised by Mitra Holistic Health Society on Sunday.

National kabaddi tournament

CHITTOOR: The national kabaddi tournament participants' rally was flagged off by S. S. Rawat, district Collector, here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion the Collector said that the tournament would be held at Chittoor from February 28 to March 4. Sixty teams of all the States, including railways and BSNL, comprising 1,200 athletes would be participating. - Correspondent

Appointed State NSUI secretary

`Chalo Assembly' rally by KVPS today

HYDERABAD: A `Chalo Assembly' rally is being organised on Tuesday by Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi (KVPS) to back up the indefinite fast by its vice-president and CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu. The rally that is supported by the Andhra Pradesh Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham is aimed to focus the problems of dalits, a press release said. Meanwhile, the Dalit Rights Struggle Committee staged a demonstration at Indira Park on Monday.

Panduranga panel's term extended

HYDERABAD: The Government has extended till May 4 this year the term of Justice I. Panduranga Rao, single-member commission of inquiry, looking into the orders issued regarding allotment/exemption of surplus lands under the Urban Land Ceiling Act. - Special Correspondent

Priest attacked

KURNOOL: A temple priest Yagna Ramaiah was allegedly attacked with an axe by a devotee Ch. Venkata Ramana at Bodanam, near Bandi Atmakur, on Monday. The priest had conducted some rituals for the benefit of Ramana but they did not show any result. Annoyed over this, he inflicted seven deep wounds on the priest and surrendered before the police. - Special Correspondent

14 hurt in clash

KURNOOL: A freak incident led to a fierce clash between two groups, which left 14 injured, at Siddapalle near Atmakur on Sunday night. They clashed with axes and sickles over a minor dispute caused by a calf straying into the pen of others. - Special Correspondent

Plea to scrap SEZ Act

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh unit of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch has demanded scrapping of the SEZ Act and returning of the land acquired from farmers. It sought an immediate legislation to stop conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes. - Special Correspondent

Chada's demand

HYDERABAD: CPI floor leader Chada Venkata Reddy on Monday sought the intervention Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to sort out demands of Andhra Pradesh Medical Employees' Union in a time-bound period to avert strike on March 7. Mr. Reddy, along with president of the union G. Ramachander, met Dr. Reddy.
