New chairman of Sir Syed Foundation

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Hasan Ali Shah Jafri, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was on Monday appointed Chairman of the Sir Syed Education Foundation. The foundation works as a trust for educational uplift of poor and talented Muslim students in Rajasthan.

Prof. Jafri taught political science at AMU for 30 years and later served as a Member of the Rajasthan State Public Service Commission for five years. He also heads the State unit of Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Hind.

The members of the foundation unanimously elected Prof. Jafri as the new Chairman at a meeting here after the post fell vacant following the death of previous Chairman and former State Minister Abdul Rehman Chaudhary.

Prof. Jafri said the foundation would release scholarships to poor students for 2006-07 in the first week of March and added that the institution would be strengthened by associating the people who can make significant monetary contributions to the trust.
