KORAPUT: A miscreant attacked a havildar of the Orissa Special Armed Police (OSAP) Bikram Kujur on Sunday night and snatched away his AK-47 rifle. Mr. Bikram reached his residence in OSAP Colony at midnight after completion of duty when he heard some noise from a nearby bush. Suddenly, a person jumped out of the bush and attacked him with an axe. Though Mr. Bikram tried to protect himself with the rifle, his left ear was cut. As he fell on the ground, the miscreant took the gun and ran away. On receiving information from neighbours, the police rushed to the spot and began search for the miscreant.
The dog squad led them up to the nearby railway station. On their way back to the station, the police found the magazine of the rifle with the bullets lying near a pond. All railway stations were alerted, said B.K. Jit, Superintendent of OSAP.
