Bangalore: Bangalore's sorry reputation as suicide capital was reinforced with two separate incidents of suicide and a suicide attempt being reported on Monday. Vignesh (25), a software engineer working for an IT company located in the International Tech Park, hanged himself in his room in Malleswaram police station limits. Police said Vignesh, a native of Coimbatore, was staying on Sampige Road and had not turned up for work for the last three days. His death came to light when his friend Ravi went to check on him Monday evening. When Vignesh did not answer the door, Ravi peeped through the window and found him hanging from the ceiling fan. Police suspect he may have committed suicide two days ago. In another incident, Manjunath (45), a petty businessman, and his wife, Shobha, 40, committed suicide by consuming poison at their house in 15th Cross, 1st Stage Banashankari in Hanumanthanagar police station limits. The couple had been married for the last 15 years and were reportedly depressed as they had no children. Their bodies were discovered this afternoon. A note said no one else was responsible for their death, police said. Another couple, Raghuram Shetty (33) and Lalitha (28) tried to kill their two daughters, Rashmi (6) and Reshma (4) and then attempted suicide by consuming poison on Monday evening in Hulimavu police station limits but failed. All of them have been hospitalised. The two children are out of danger while the couple's condition is critical. According to the police, Raghuram Shetty, hailing from Dakshina Kannada, is working in a private company here and the family was reportedly going through a financial crisis.
Two killed
Two persons were killed in separate road accidents reported from the city and Bangalore Rural district on Sunday. Police said Prathik R. Pawar (23) died when a motorcycle rammed his two-wheeler on National Highway 4, off Visveshwara Layout Cross, in the evening. He died on the spot but had no visible injuries. However, an autopsy revealed internal injuries of the chest, the police said. Pawar, a resident of Arishinakunte on Tumkur Road, was an employee of a private firm. The Nelamangala police have registered a case. In the other incident, a labourer died when he was knocked down by a car in City Market traffic police station limits. The police said that around 7 p.m. the car hit M. Krishna (35), resident of Kumbarpet, while he was crossing N.R. Road. A seriously injured Krishna was rushed to NIMHANS where he died around 10.30 p.m. The City Market police have seized the car and arrested the driver.
